Clothing ideas for my video

These clothing ideas I would like to use in my video, as I think they will look good when the video is put into black and white. They will also fit with the theme of the music video.

Test Footage Shadow

This test footage inspired me to try this against the water with my horse, hopefully resulting in seeing him run past the water only by seeing his shadow; I think this will look really good in black and white as his colour will then really stand out against the water. The use of this test footage allowed me to gain experience not only practicing it on the camera but then how to carry out editing it on the computer, I think it’s a really effective effect and would fit really well with the genre of my music video as it’s a simple effect like the other effects on plan on using in my music video.

Test Footage of Slow Motion and B/W

My test footage was put in black and white, as I want my whole music video to be put in B/W. I might have some aspects of colour at main points. I also changed the speed duration, as I want certain parts of my video in slow motion, and some parts to be quicker, the test footage allowed me to see if it looks effective, and would work in my video. I also took this test footage with a shoulder mount, to see if I could take footage using this equipment, and if it looks steady and not blurry when uploaded to Premiere. Although when i take my final footage it will be completely different to something like this as it will be a horse running at a must faster speed, but it still allowed me to gain experience will trial and error and to just see how everything works.

Test Footage

The Test of the Low Angle shot of Rowans feet using the shoulder mount equipment again, allowed me to see if I could use this in my final video, as I want to follow my horses feet when he is running, then put it in slow motion. The shoulder mount, allowed me to do this and it kept it looking steady at the same time, and not fuzzy and blurry. The shoulder mount will be the perfect equipment for my music video, as hopefully i will be taking shots at lots of different angles and at lots of different speeds, so just by shooting text footage it was giving me experience with it.

making of Only the horses

This video, really inspired me for my music video, especially the various shots and angles of the horses moving at different speeds. I am hopefully going to try a few of these shots using a shoulder mount, especially of my horse's feet running, then after uploading it to After Effects putting it into slow motion, as it is in this video. This video shows a clip of a part of their storyboard, in which they clearly used to plan how they were going to make the final product. This I took into account when I was creating my story board, as I put as much detail into it as possible, so when it comes to shooting my video I will have a clear and vivid idea infront of me, and also to relate to if I get stuck filming.

Video ideas

I love this video, and it really inspired me to carry on with my idea of using horses, it also gave me pointers and hints of ideas I could use in my video. I really like the shot of the horses feet in slow motion, this is something I will hopefully use in my video (but not the same) using a shoulder mount. I also like the use of colour (paints), I would like to put my video in black and white, but certain parts I might leave in colour for extra effect.

Print Advert

My Print Advert I created on photoshop. I took the images for it of my horse on the beach, as that is my idea for mny music video, this way i am clearly advertising what i am going to be showing in my music video. I wanted to keep the text simple as it fit well with the imagery and i wanted all the focus on the images, a reason why i put the colouring in black and white so certain  areas were highlighted more than others, like the horses eye for example. I placed a heart above the I in Charlie, to add a personal touch, because after reseaching some advertisements most artists added a peronal touch to their name.

Inside of Digipack

The inside of my digipack was created on photoshop, its just images of the setting of where my main music video is going to take place. This I thought was effective as once again it keeps things simple and keeps most of the focus on the main imagery, a reason why I didnt place any text on the inside of my digipack.

Digipack

My Digi-pack I created on Photoshop, the images I took myself. I really like the front cover as I think it will attract the audience due to the colours and the way they bounce of each other. I put it in Black and White to begin with then changed the opacity slightly, then changed the auto tone and contrast in order to add that slightly orange effect in the background. The reason I did this was to make the horse really stand out against the water and at least have one bold part of colouring in order to bring out the whole image.
The back of my Digi-pack I used the same colour effects in order to have that bright light coming through from the background again. You can almost see what looks like a camera error (the ball of light on the horse near the top) but I thought gave it effect and sometimes that works in images so I left it. The Horses eye looks slightly glazy but I thought this fit well with the whole overlook of the image.
The text on both of them I kept simple as then all the focus is on the images, I just slightly added a border around the white text in order to make it stand out more, also highlight the main parts. I only put the artist’s first name, as I thought it looked more professional as after researching different CD covers, a lot of artists did this.

Animation Task

This animation task I found really interesting as I learnt techniques that I have never used before. It was also an experience as I didnt realise you could do so much to just one picture. By the time I had a few attempts with different images I felt really confident doing it, proving to be a really sucessful and useful task.

Cutting To Time Task

The cutting to time task will be useful when creating any music video as I think its a skill you will always need to know. It was an experience as you had to take the images yourself then create a video out of them, but at the same time it had to look proffesional. Cutting it to the music to begin with I found fairly difficult, but by the end of it I found it fairly easy and experimented with different ways of doing it.

The ABC task i believe was the simplest one out of the entire tasks we had to complete, but it reminded us of all the basic skills we will need to know when creating our own music video. It was enjoyable to make and watch and got me back into using Photoshop and After Effects, as it was something I hadn’t used until A2 media studies, so by practising tasks before creating out own videos I found really effective.

RESEARCHED DIRECTOR

Chris Milk was so interesting as I have never experienced anyone like him before, after watching his videos and the ideas he can come up with in such a sort amount of time, he fascinates me. He seems really clever and has many different ideas that make him unique and individual against many other directors, a reason why he has worked with so many popular, as he knows how to make them different and individual as this is what most pop stars want.

A range of music Vidoes I enjoy

The music director for this video is Paul Hunter. The reason I thoroughly enjoy this video is because it has such a smooth style, and works really well with the beat of the track. I like how the camera cuts between people’s faces showing a medium close-up panning in to close-ups, highlighting the tension that is going on in the room and between different characters; this sets a scene for the story and makes the audience intrigued.  I enjoy how Paul, almost covers Michaels face in every close-up, by only showing one side of his face, which is almost shadowed under his hat, it gives Michael a fierce edge which fits perfectly into the story and the theme. My favourite part of this video is where Michaels track cuts out and the sound becomes non diegetic, and he is joined by several men on a stage that are dressed the same as him, you hear them enter by the sound of their feet dropping to the floor. Paul’s idea for this scene was amazing as it really intrigued the audience. The mise-en-scene of all the dancers on the stage in the same position looks fantastic and has a really good effect, all you can hear is the sound of the characters breathing, against a slight background music, they work really well together, giving the right effect for the video.

Another video I chose was Nicki Minaj 'Pound the Alarm' by RedOne, Carl Falk & Rami Yacoub, and co-written by Onika. This video shows a really good range of camera work, the beat and tempo of the track is fast the whole way throughout the video. I like how the camera jumps straight in and zooms in and out, following Nicki Minaj as she walks towards it, i think this has a good effect on the audience as it’s like she’s looking and singing directly to you. The camera jump cuts from Nicki Minaj’s face to other girls faces, showing a close up each time, this is to emphasise the speed of the track and highlight what the song is about. I like how the directors, chose to constantly have the video moving at a fast pace, the camera tilts and pans in and out a lot, to give this chosen effect. A favourite effect of mine in this video is where the sound effect changes making the song sound quicker and muffled, whilst this is happening the camera blurs the image of Nicki Minaj and the dancers around her, the camera tilts and pans at the same time, making the image shake and move quicker. The overall effect of these put together works really well. Another aspect of this video I enjoy is the amount of different colours used through costumes and backgrounds that the directors used; it fits perfectly with the song type.

I thoroughly enjoy this video of Rihanna 'Where have you been'. The dance choreography is very well established, and works well with the beat of the track. The different close-ups of Rihanna in her different costumes strongly fit with the theme of the video. The different sets the camera cuts to are all really interesting and work really well against the artist and the other dancers around her. My favourite set is in the opening 10 seconds where Rihanna is in the water and you can only see her eyes coming out of the top. It draws the audience in to her eyes as the only light coming in is reflecting off them, it also sets a really good effect and theme for the beginning of the video.
