A range of music Vidoes I enjoy

The music director for this video is Paul Hunter. The reason I thoroughly enjoy this video is because it has such a smooth style, and works really well with the beat of the track. I like how the camera cuts between people’s faces showing a medium close-up panning in to close-ups, highlighting the tension that is going on in the room and between different characters; this sets a scene for the story and makes the audience intrigued.  I enjoy how Paul, almost covers Michaels face in every close-up, by only showing one side of his face, which is almost shadowed under his hat, it gives Michael a fierce edge which fits perfectly into the story and the theme. My favourite part of this video is where Michaels track cuts out and the sound becomes non diegetic, and he is joined by several men on a stage that are dressed the same as him, you hear them enter by the sound of their feet dropping to the floor. Paul’s idea for this scene was amazing as it really intrigued the audience. The mise-en-scene of all the dancers on the stage in the same position looks fantastic and has a really good effect, all you can hear is the sound of the characters breathing, against a slight background music, they work really well together, giving the right effect for the video.

Another video I chose was Nicki Minaj 'Pound the Alarm' by RedOne, Carl Falk & Rami Yacoub, and co-written by Onika. This video shows a really good range of camera work, the beat and tempo of the track is fast the whole way throughout the video. I like how the camera jumps straight in and zooms in and out, following Nicki Minaj as she walks towards it, i think this has a good effect on the audience as it’s like she’s looking and singing directly to you. The camera jump cuts from Nicki Minaj’s face to other girls faces, showing a close up each time, this is to emphasise the speed of the track and highlight what the song is about. I like how the directors, chose to constantly have the video moving at a fast pace, the camera tilts and pans in and out a lot, to give this chosen effect. A favourite effect of mine in this video is where the sound effect changes making the song sound quicker and muffled, whilst this is happening the camera blurs the image of Nicki Minaj and the dancers around her, the camera tilts and pans at the same time, making the image shake and move quicker. The overall effect of these put together works really well. Another aspect of this video I enjoy is the amount of different colours used through costumes and backgrounds that the directors used; it fits perfectly with the song type.

I thoroughly enjoy this video of Rihanna 'Where have you been'. The dance choreography is very well established, and works well with the beat of the track. The different close-ups of Rihanna in her different costumes strongly fit with the theme of the video. The different sets the camera cuts to are all really interesting and work really well against the artist and the other dancers around her. My favourite set is in the opening 10 seconds where Rihanna is in the water and you can only see her eyes coming out of the top. It draws the audience in to her eyes as the only light coming in is reflecting off them, it also sets a really good effect and theme for the beginning of the video.
